you can use this like a documentary of what cool is. |
I meant to post this before I left. But, um, anyway, I’m back from this place.

On the train, off to explore several Asian districts of Los Angeles with a handful of Singaporeans and my roommate. See you soon (unless I’m abducted in Little Tokyo and chopped up into sushi).

I don’t know how I’m going to handle living anywhere like this.

Stephen happened to still be in LA. Four of my friends happened to be driving to LA that afternoon, and happened to drop me off at the hotel a mere ten minutes before Stephen was available to hang out. I waited for him in a Starbucks that happened to be handing out free pastries. I saw Gavin for the first time in nine months because he happened to be staying at the same hotel, and I also peeked into Stephen’s (tiny) hotel room because his three roommates happened to take a bus to Hollywood to eat In-N-Out. And after six(!) hours, my mother picked me up and drove me back to school, because she happened to be driving through LA this evening anyway.
I am grateful for every coincidence.
Home is wherever I’m with you.
If all goes according to plan, I’m going to be alone in Los Angeles tonight for an indeterminate amount of time (five minutes? two hours?) , possibly riding the subway, and I’m wearing my harmonica necklace partially because it could double for a rape whistle.
I’m kind of joking, but let’s face it, I’m kind of not joking, and I’m kind of smart.
Yesterday, I made arrangements to meet up with Stephen for a couple hours at his hotel in LA, where he is staying along with the other members of the basketball teams and bands participating in the Pac-10 tournament. Here’s what went down:
8:30- Molly, Jack, and Otherstephen arrive at the hotel and decide to explore. They take the elevator to the top floor (32) to check out the view.
8:40- We decide to explore the buildings around the hotel. As we exit the hotel, two policemen enter.
8:50- We return to the hotel to find twelve additional cop cars at the entrance.
9:00- Stephen arrives and explains that a possible gunman has barricaded himself in a 30th floor room, and that levels 28-32 have been completely shut down. Which is weird since, you know, we were there half an hour ago.
9:10- Molly and Stephen walk to the Staples Center while Otherstephen and Jack decide to hang out and watch the events unfold.
10:00- Molly gets a text from Jack informing her that the SWAT Team has arrived.
10:45- Molly and Stephen return to the hotel to find the road completely filled with emergency vehicles, the parking garage roped off with caution tape, two helicopters circling the hotel, and a news van reporting on the whole incident.
11:30- Molly, Jack, and Otherstephen depart for Chapman with the gunman, the SWAT team, and hundreds of band kids still hanging out inside.
4:30- The alleged gunman is taken into custody after the SWAT team pumps tear-gas into his A/C unit.
So that was my evening! I’m doing my best to make it back to the hotel today. Who knows what will go down then?
Here’s an article on the alleged guman: http://abclocal.go.com/kabc/story?section=news/local/los_angeles&id=8005027
